This is the thread for black music of the 70s and early 80s. Some of the stuff I've been posting in jazz and Japanese experimental is stylistically related to this stuff. Part of the reason I dislike rap so much is it basically cut off the flow of genuine black music with real musicianship. These days even black singers sing over a computer generated beat and it's produced much the same way as rap. Total corruption.

Check out the SOS band, I aspire to be the white version of the pimp looking guy on the piano guitar when I'm old, singer has nice tits as well

Next up we have some George Benson, all around quality, the George Benson topic has whole albums on youtube

Here's some Luther Vandross, when you think Luther you think sappy love ballads, but he had some good up tempo and even funky stuff

Usher has a surprisingly good cover of the same song

In fact Usher had a lot of amazing covers of Luther Vandross Songs

And Usher has some good covers of Stevie Wonder

Speaking of the genuine article, here is an underrated song of his, everybody forgets he did stuff other than superstition and lately

Quite a bit of pre-70s black stuff is good too.

I'd classify this as "60s song, 70s music"

Modern jungle beatz black music = hundreds of years of white acculturation gone.

A largely forgotten and highly underrated tune. I want to go back to 1983 and go sailing in the Florida Keys on a boat with lots of wood paneling with this blaring out of the boombox.

    Black music? 70s and 80s?

Best be talkin bout some REGGAE. Sly and Robbie, especially. They're rhythms were basically the foundation of 70's and 80's reggae. They played with all the greats.
