I'm sure there was a lot more stuff that you wouldn't have been able to find in polite society and public life in general but I'm sure you could get what hedonism you wanted if you knew how to get in with the right subculture.

Not a human name. Looks like they had a cat walk across a keyboard to pick his name.

There is a lulz worthy irony here: Egypt was an ascendant country at the time and Qutb's philosophy and followers are a huge reason why it's a clusterfuck today.

Every religious extremist is either secretly a fag, pedophile or both. Qutb is literally the reason Egypt is a shit hole today.

One of my dad's friends has all of his writing prominently featured in his home library. An extremely proud MB member. Blows my fucking mind. Egypt and Iraq were -this- close to becoming real countries but shot themselves in the foot because of dipshits like Qutb.

This is not true (unless you meant within Islam in particular, in which case I cannot say). It certainly was not true throughout history. What I do agree with is that the extremely devout often have a component of autism, which causes them to construe dogma fairly rigidly.

On a different topic, sorry to ask such a "basic bitch" question after all these years, but I'm working in a new place, and haven't had to run this kind of "co-worker game" in a while: when a young, reasonably attractive woman treats you icily, impairing your ability to work together for no reason, it's a shit test until proven otherwise, yes?

There isn't much of a story at all. I started working at a new hospital; one of the nurses is way bitchier towards me than is warranted, in a fashion that impedes work and is extremely irritating given that I am not hitting on her or interested in any way.

I've only had that happen to me three times in my life at three different hospitals:

    > College, I was a nurse aide and a nurse FUCKING HATED me because I was essentially her baby daddy's twin brother supposedly.

    > Med school...Fucked a nurse a couple of times, she thought she could be my wife, no dice. So she was a pain in my ass.

    > Residency...Trashy Co-Resident single mom hated me, sabotaged me, lied to me and to patient and other doctors about me. Mainly because I was on good terms with the guy that was stalking her and her kid.

Finally con'd wife into doing this. She got 121 which seems in line with other stuff like this she has done. Funny thing, though, is there seems to be a huge chasm between the two of us in this regard. Guess it is more the man/woman thing and the nurture. Her mom just, I am not going to get started.

I promise this isn't intended as an "I am the Big Dog" post, it's just something I've probably been doing for a while and became consciously aware of today. Touch of the 'tism incoming.

Riding elevators with younger millennial men feels like I'm one half of a Chad vs Virgin comic. I've always just stood in my own personal space, stood up straight, and usually look forwards or up at the floor numbers. These wieners consistently put their back to the wall and stare down at their feet. Even when they don't have their smart phones clutched in front of them they still stare at where it would be!

Likewise, if I pass people on the sidewalk I generally try to make eye contact. Not to start a Big Dog dominance contest, but just acknowledging people. Here's what I realised I've been doing when it's couples.

Try to make eye contact with dude.

If he looks back, acknowledgement nod, maybe a "how's it goin (eh)", eyes bounce past girl.

If he doesn't, eye contact and smile at his girl (who is nearly always looking back).

These are mostly affluent students and yuppie types near where I live, but I have ample opportunity to observe the body language of different classes of people so I will be comparing. Now that I'm consciously thinking about this, I realised that actual riff raff have enough street smarts that when they avoid eye contact it's clearly a conscious move on their part. Affluent types are just confused and don't know where to put their eyes.

Same. I'll usually lean back against the wall casually and make small talk with whoever is in there. Weather bullshit or whatever. It's surprising how uncomfortable that makes people. I know it's kind of boomery, but starting random conversations with people was part of the methodology I used to break out of my shy personality.

Well, this is legitimate sociological observation, and it's all very interesting to those of us who were taught to "stand up straight".

What fascinates me is that despite everything you've mentioned about posture, eye contact, etc., these guys all have girlfriends. You go out in public - every time I'm in Toronto, Montreal, whatever metropolis it may be, I observe this - and you see that these guys do have girls with them. Clearly one doesn't have to be a Specimen of Manly Excellence to get a girl.

I then ponder the fact that most non-obese women under 30 are attractive, and filter this through the lens of 'assortative mating'. It becomes clear that women don't conceive of their own, and men's, attractiveness the way we do.

In societies with a higher proportion of introverts (ie. northern European derived societies) women will tend to restrict their dating pool to their social circle. Meeting a random dude you met on some app is still beyond a lot of women (highly extroverted behavior when you think about it) and they end up dating whoever is the least lame of the lame dudes at their work and/or school.
