Metal Gear 5 was shitty until I kinda clued into how it was meant to be. Not very much like the other Metal Gears but a good play.

It lays the events of Metal Gear 1 and 2 and MGS1 directly, and the others a bit more indirectly. It’s a great game but it is completely different from the rest of the franchise.

I remember playing through part of 4 while my exgf watched and subsequently got horrified about how my idea of stealth was physically removing all witnesses with a .308 rifle

If no one's alive to tell what happened, it's still stealth.

I've seen more cute girls at the different Gamestops I've been to this week than at any gym I go to.

Now that performance issues are resolved in Space Engineers, you can "3d print" ships extremely quickly by building a bay of moving welders that pass over a projector.

A handful of big changes due to this ability:

    1. Installing basic AI on ships and having them patrol, act as battering rams, etc is now totally feasible and effective. Image below is a "cruise missile" which is just a cheap AI small ship. For taking down large targets you can throw a cargo container on each "missile" and fill it with excess stone from your mining operations, all the extra weight lets them punch through even heavy armor on large ships no sweat. Stationary targets and bases are now very vulnerable!

    2. Large mining ships and big refinery+production facilities are what's in demand. Even if you are strip mining iron to make extremely heavily armored carriers for deep space, you're gonna need a lot more ore than before. Luckily the performance boosts help you mine with industrial drills without lag like never before. Lots of improvement on existing designs to be made here!

    3. Energy shields aren't nearly as effective if you're using these small ships as missiles. Kinetic energy dumping into a target at high speeds causes a lot more damage than bullets/rockets. Don't forget, you can theoretically add a small shield generator to each missile (would be more complicated to make but doable) as well! There are a few popular energy shield mod styles now and all of them have the same concept, they're very useful for mitigating glancing damage from turrets, low speed collision bumps, etc but they are no match for bombardment.

    4. Exploration mod is fixed I think ... if true they'll have a lot more of the large military ships running again which means our previous raiding small attack ships are no match for these enemies. We still need to figure out a method of attack that lets us board a ship and steal all of their uranium without accidentally blowing them up first. Instead of massed gatlings it may be better to come alongside them with a large ship loaded with turrets and take down all of their weapons, then dock to it manually using landing gear.

New and nifty things include a hookshot for the super shotgun, a chaingun upgrade for the regular shotgun, and ever more over the top glory kills. Plus some new enemies. And you have limited lives, by the looks of it.

A new DOOM game with a level creator or source-engine style level of customization would be successful. I don't see it working out any other way. The team that made the original game also was heavily involved in the community and promoted hi-scores and tournaments. If you go play a round of multiplayer capture the flag in classic DOOM right now it's more intense than virtually any new game! For single player the staff used to let people submit level competition times and they even supported crazy gametypes like melee only which I believe are called Tyson runs.

Yeah, it's just a demonstration level, probably based on/uses assets from an actual level, but set up specifically to showcase certain new features in the game, such as the extra life we saw, the rotary upgrade for the shotgun, the hookshot, the glory kills, etc... It's probably not a legit in-game level. Several of the demonstrations for DOOM 2016 were similar.

Winbot, they've already said they're not including SnapMap. The best thing they can do is leave the customization and modding to classic DOOM and the Source mods, there were some really interesting levels and ideas made in SnapMap, but it didn't go over as well as they thought. 2016 was a big hit for the brutal, over the top single-player, which is what they're focusing on here; they've mentioned story DLC, and while it would be sacrilege for most to consider releasing DOOM without deathmatch, 2016's more old school, arena style multiplayer didn't go over that well, so I think they're going to end up trying other multiplayer - they even have a setting you can turn on and off, where other players can pop in to your campaign as demons and actively try to kill you - and leave deathmatch to classic DOOM and battle-royale games. That might honestly be the best business decision for them, the classic DOOM guys aren't going to be that interested in the new stuff, so I think we're going to see more throwback type stuff, classic levels buried within the new ones again, that was a big hit in 2016 and Wolfenstein, but focusing on the campaign is probably in their best interests overall. Unlike Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, though, it doesn't look like they're really going to be able to infest DOOM Eternal with poz, so it will still be absurdly brutal, metal, savage, and fun.
